Determination of effective stiffness properties of multilayered composite beams

Abstract Starting from a Cosserat-type model for curved rods, we derive analytical expressions the effective stiffness coefficients of multilayered composite beams with an arbitrary number layers. For this purpose, employ comparison solutions some bending, torsion, and extension problems three-dimensional rods. The layers beam consist different orthotropic or isotropic non-homogeneous elastic materials. We apply obtained general formulas to calculate exact compare them corresponding results numerical simulations. study shows wide range validity applicability formulas.
